NYE

It’s that time of the year again when people make brazen “resolutions” and do their best to follow through with them.  I have discussed this phenomenon with a few of my friends, and we have talked about what our resolutions are for 2009.  Sure, go with the typical “learn a new language” or “lose 50 lbs.”  After a conversation with one of my more astute friends (Rob), he told me his resolution is to do something productive every morning for an hour.  It could be reading a chapter of an HTML book, journaling for an hour or whatever.  I really liked that attitude because you accomplish something every morning, plus you can change up what you do.  Most people who commit to resolutions don’t stick to them because they are too mundane, but a resolution like Rob’s lends itself to variety.  I know he’ll stick to it.

I have been thinking about what my resolution should be, and I have come to a few final ideas.  First, I want to update my blog and journal much more frequently.  Ideally 3 or 4 times a week.  I don’t care if it is just a picture and a caption or something more text-heavy like this here.  Idea number two is to go out and shoot pictures at least twice a week.  I feel like I didn’t do that enough my first few months in Germany, and after hanging out with Rob (and watching his every move with a camera), I don’t think I have ever been more devoted to it.  Idea three is going on a day trip every other weekend or so.  There are a ton of cool cities in Germany that I would love to see, and I can go there relatively inexpensively, so why not do it?  My last idea would be to read a new historical non-fiction book every two weeks.  I think in general I just want to be more advantageous with my time.  I do have more free time in Germany than I have really ever had before.  I need to take advantage of it while I still have it.  That being said, let me know what your resolutions are or what you think of mine.
