An Update On Things

School has been about the same as always.  I am making my way through the days, but it is not something that I want to do for a very long time.  It is just that I feel as though I am not being used anywhere near the way I should be.  I am frustrated because the school thinks that things are not as smooth as they should be, and I really feel that is their fault, not mine.  I’m not too sure about why they expect me to come find all of the 8 teachers I work with and ask them what I am supposed to do for their class.  They all plan at different paces, so of course there is no good way to do it.  After Spring Break I only have 9 weeks left, and let me tell you that I am counting down the days.  If you want some more details about how I feel about the school here then let me know.

Right now I am on Easter Break, and I will be off for another 2 weeks or so.  The weather is finally warming up, and I have spent a lot of time outside reading.  The book I just finished is “The Rebel Sell:  How the Counterculture Became the Consumer Culture”.  I would really recommend the book to anyone who is interested in economics, culture, leftist politics, or cultural revolutions.  The next book I am working on is “Imagining India:  The Idea of a Renewed Nation”.  I’m really excited to read it, as I don’t know a whole lot about India, and I think it’s an important country and culture to read about.

In less than 2 weeks, Julia will finally make her way up to Hannover.  She’ll be here for my birthday and we’re thinking about 4 days or so in total.  It will be amazing to finally meet her, and of course we are both thinking of ways to break the proverbial “ice”.  I can really imagine her exiting the train wearing her gorilla mask.  Yea, that’s my girlfriend.

I was able to play some football the other day, and that rocked.  My next goal is to find a basketball hoop that is regulation height and has a straight rim.  Let me tell you that in Germany, that is tough to locate.  Especially in a city as wonderful and with as many cultural offerings as Hannover (hopefully the sarcasm can be sensed).

At this point I am starting to reflect on my time here, and what I had expected in relation to what actually transpired.  I know that my time here has definitely made me much more brutally honest than before I came in September.  I think I’ll save my rants and the few positives for the next installment.  Until next time.
